Post 16 Win City Debating Competition

 Congratulations to President Kennedy School Year 12 students Jess Bayton-Timms, Tam Gulati, Sonali  Gupta and Joti Sangha, winners of the Coventry Year 12 Debating Competition held in the Council Chambers. 

Under the expert and dedicated tutelage of Mr Kinnen, the girl's triumphed by defeating Cardinal Newman (2) on the motion that "This house  believes that driving lessons should be taught in school to reduce the high death rate amongst young drivers" and defeating Cardinal Newman (1) again in the final by debating "This house  believes that the voting age should be reduced to 16". Other schools who took part in the finals  included Lyng Hall, Sidney Stringer, Caludon Castle, Foxford, Barr's Hill, Westwood and Coundon Court.

 

 

 

 

 The competition was judged by members of the City Council’s Education Service. The Lord Mayor of Coventry watched the debate, and announced the winners and presented the medals.

Interviewed by Coventry Evening Telegraph, the girls commented, “we are so proud of what we have achieved, it has been a wonderful experience. We really owe so much to Mr Kinnen, our teacher, who has worked so hard to get us to a winning standard.”
