Year 8 Cricket Team Compete At Edgbaston

Our Year 8 cricket squad attended an invitation-only cricket festival at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The festival was switched indoors due to the wet weather, but our boys took this in their stride and put in battling performances against teams with much more experience.

The first game we played was against Washwood Heath Academy from Birmingham who dominated the entire competition. We scored a modest 18 off our x8 four ball overs, but we were the only team that Washwood didn’t manage to bowl out. We then forced Washwood to take 6.4 overs to get the 19 required to win, taking the wicket of their star
batsman.

Games against Kineton High School and Queensbridge School were lost in similar situations, as we couldn't get enough runs to give ourselves a chance against teams with multiple county players. However, in our game against Stoke Park School we restricted them to 41 for 7 and then set about a thrilling run chase, scoring the winning runs with one ball remaining.

Our cricketers were a credit to our school and will be better prepared for next season thanks to the experience of playing such seasoned opposition.
