Year 8 Students Visit the National Holocaust Centre

Year 8 students accompanied by teachers from the R.E. Department, visited the
National Holocaust Centre (Beth Shalom) recently. The Centre promotes an understanding of the roots of discrimination and prejudice, and the development of ethical values, leading to a greater understanding within society. The visit built on students’ inter faith social skills and students  learnt in depth about genocide and The Holocaust .

Students viewed the Holocaust Exhibition and Memorial Museums plus a centre dedicated to the
Rwandan Genocide and were encouraged think about why these human tragedies had happened. They
questioned what were the causes of the Holocaust and how humanity allowed the holocaust to
continue. It was clear from their reaction that our students benefited greatly from the visit in terms of historical, religious and cultural knowledge.

This is was the first time we have offered this trip and it was deeply rewarding and a highly educational
learning experience.
