Our Team take a place on the Podium!

Last week on a wet and windy afternoon a number of Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in the West Midlands round of The Kids Lit’ Quiz.

The Kids' Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 - 13 years.

Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and USA.  The winning team from each heat competes in a National Final.  National champions compete in the World Final and this year it will take place in Toronto, Canada. The quiz was founded by New Zealand quizmaster Wayne Mills, a University lecturer in Children’s Literature.

Our two teams consisted of:

Team 1:  Cole Prue, Praveen Dhillon, Aymaan Sajid and Harry Gilsenan

Team 2:  Akeel Jawfer, Iqra Sajid, Kavita Sidhu and Tyler Eaton-Jephcote

Reserves were:  Amelia Coleman, Amy Cox, Bradley Gostick and Abbas Hussain.

Both teams won prizes throughout the competition and individually too, with Team 2 scoring top marks in the 1st round!

Throughout the competition, it was Team 1 that were in the top 2 – scoring the highest marks in 4 of the 10 rounds.  Despite trying their best, they just missed first place to another school from the Midlands, by securing a fantastic 2nd place and were the highest scoring school team in Coventry.

These are the best results President Kennedy School have ever had in the Kids Lit Quiz and if we keep reading lots of fiction, there’s no reason why we couldn’t do even better next year!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this this event!
