  • Winners: Our Coventry Netball Champions!

    Congratulations to our U12 netball team who have been crowned Coventry Champions!

    The team played their final league game of the season against Cardinal Wiseman School knowing that securing a win here would result in pipping West Coventry Academy to the top of the league table and being crowned City champions. Despite the immense pressure, the U12s remained cool, calm and collected and ended the first quarter with a     3-1 lead.

     

    By the end of the third quarter, Cardinal Wiseman had begun to put on the pressure, clawing the score back to a marginal lead of just 7-5. However, the U12s continued to press and the final quarter finished 10-6 to President    Kennedy School.  Beating 9 out of the 10 teams involved in the league over the course of the season has resulted in our U12s being crowned Coventry City champions for the first time ever in our school's history! Huge          congratulations to all of the players who have worked so hard this season to secure the league title, your determination and grit really has paid off.

    Following the launch of our brand new and innovative Virtual Learning Environment, Frog, to students in late November, we are now delighted to announce that your Parent site is now live.

    There is a wealth of information, resources and links on this new site. As well as accessing the increasingly wide range of learning resources the students already have access to, you will be able to track their achievement, attendance and behaviour.

    You will also be able to track students’ homework assignments online and follow links to key information on how we – school and home – can continue to work together to maximise the learning of every student.

    We are adding more content and functionality all the time, so keep your eye on the website and newsletter for future developments.   • Our Outstanding Results Shine in School Performance Tables

    President Kennedy School's academic results shone out in the School Performance Tables published on 24th January 2018. President Kennedy School achieved the only 'well above average' ranking in Coventry, which means that the academic progress our students make across the curriculum between Year 7 and GCSE is within the top 5% of all schools nationally. Indeed, the school's outstanding Progress 8 measure of 0.68 means that our students' performance at GCSE places the school within the top 1 or 2% nationally.   • Sir David Carter Opens Our New School Building

    Staff, students, members of our community and invited guests gathered at President Kennedy School today to officially open and celebrate our new school building.

    We were delighted to be joined by VIP guests including the National Schools Commissioner, Sir David Carter who officially opened the building, together with Christine Quinn the Regional Schools Commissioner, The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Rt. Hon Geoffrey Robinson MP, John Dishman, Pro Vice Chancellor of Coventry University, Cllr G Duggins Leader of Coventry City Council (and ex President Kennedy student), Cllrs Rachel Lancaster, Joe Clifford, David Kershaw and Gary Crookes and David Moorcroft OBE to name just a few.

    Sir David delivered a speech focused on the importance of education and how outstanding schools such as President Kennedy School are making an impact both in the local community and across Coventry as it works with other schools within The Futures Trust.

  • A Warm Welcome to our New Year 7's at The Bridge!

    On Wednesday 6th September  we welcomed our Year 7 students to President Kennedy School.

    The Bridge was oversubscribed again this year with a waiting list. 

    Looking extremely smart, students arrived ready to start their educational journey with us.

    They were warmly welcomed by The Bridge Team outside our brand new school and spent the rest of their day settling in with their tutor groups. By lunchtime everyone looked relaxed, happy and made plenty of new friendships. We know our students will never forget their first day at secondary school and it was absolutely brilliant to see them settling in so well.

    The Bridge Team look forward to an exciting year with many memories and achievements with our new Year 7's.

  • Another Year of Outstanding GCSE Results!

    Staff and students at President Kennedy School are celebrating yet another fantastic set of GCSE results.

    This year, Maths and English GCSEs have been graded using the new system of 1 to 9 (9 being the top grade). Students made outstanding progress across both subjects with a number achieving the very top grade.

    Every single student (100%) secured at least one GCSE and 68% secured 5 GCSEs graded A*-C or equivalent. 62% of students achieved 5 GCSEs graded A*-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths and the vast majority of Year 11 students will progress to President Kennedy School’s Post 16 to study Level 3 courses.

    A greater number of students than ever achieved top grades A* and A plus grade 8 or 9 in English and Maths. These included:

    Josh Capewell   7 A* and 2 A grades

    Jun Jie LI   3 A* and 6 A grades

    Milosz Waszak   5 A* and 3 A grades

    Kiran Birdee   3 A* and 5 A grades

    Charlie Brown   3A* and 5 A grades

    Vikram Dulai   3 A* and 5 A grades

    Fanxiang Meng   2 A* and 6 A grades

  • Students and Staff Celebrate Excellent A Level Results

    Students and staff at President Kennedy School are celebrating an excellent set of A level results which have ensured that a greater number of students than ever are going on to study at university.

    Students at President Kennedy School can study A levels in an unusually wide range of subjects including more traditional academic subjects and vocational subjects.

        

    The average grade achieved by students studying vocational A levels was Distinction* which is an outstanding achievement.

    An impressive 40% of grades secured by President Kennedy students studying academic A levels were A*-B.

    Across all subjects, 27% of students achieved the very top grade of A* or Distinction * and 41% achieved at least grade A / Distinction or higher.

    Shang Hamed - AAA and A* in Extended Project (Biology, Chemistry and Maths)Shang is attending Warwick University to study Chemistry.

    Keya Lad - AAB (Maths, Psychology and Art & Design)
    Keya is moving on to Birmingham University to study Maths.

    Suraiya Mann - AAB (Art, Psychology and English Literature)
    Suraiya is attending Leeds University to study Art & Design.

    Matthew Sweet - AAB (Maths, English Literature and History)
    Matthew is hoping to study Performing Arts at Surrey University.

    Performance in the Vocational subjects was outstanding and there are countless success stories.  All students achieved at least a Distinction grade at Level 3.  Students from Health & Social Care who are going on to Russell Group universities are; 

    Sarah Khan - D*D*D* Health & Social Care, who will be studying Education Studies at the University of Warwick.

    Charity Konadu - D*D* Health & Social Care and Sociology A, who will be studying Sociology at the University of Birmingham.

    Leader of Post 16, Mr Mort commented “Despite the fact that A levels are reported to have become more difficult, our students have exceeded all expectations yet again and secured very high grades. We are especially pleased that the vast majority of our students have secured their first choice place at university. They have worked hard and deserve their success and we wish them well on their onward journey”

    We’re pleased to announce that we will shortly be accepting payments online for items such as dinner money and school trips.  Using a secure website called ParentPay you will be able to pay online using your credit or debit card.  ParentPay will be our preferred method of making payments to school. Parents who need to continue making payments by cash may do so using the Pay Point network at local  convenience stores. Pay Point payments are recorded by ParentPay and can be seen by logging into your ParentPay account and viewing your history online.

  • Miss Meyrick is now a Published Author for the University of Warwick!

    We are thrilled to announce that one of our Teaching Staff has been chosen to have a research study on literacy and reading motivations published in the University of Warwick Journal of Education. Miss Meyrick is an English    teacher who is also responsible for High Attaining  and Literacy Development in The Bridge. She collaborates with local primary schools to ensure that we get to know our future Bridge students. In addition, she supports the delivery of enrichment programmes aimed at improving and stretching students’ communication skills through a variety of enrichment.

    ‘I am very passionate about encouraging reading and promoting it as high-profile throughout President   Kennedy School.  With this in mind, my research study primarily focused on increasing students’ reading motivations through rewards. This was a short-term study over three months – over the course of the first two months, rewards were put in place, however during the third month there were no motivations at all. The study predominantly looked at how students’ motivation to read changed throughout the three months.

    Not surprisingly, students’ motivations were at the highest during the first two months. Despite there being no rewards in the third month, the results indicated that a small number of students continued to read with no extrinsic motivations in place, which highlighted that there had been some impact on students’ intrinsic motivations to continue reading even when there were no rewards in place.

    Through conducting this research study, it has positively contributed to the subject field and to President Kennedy School as it has offered a  potential approach for increasing students’ reading motivations which hopefully will increase their reading abilities and ultimately their reading progress over time.’

  • Year 6 Transition Day 2017

    On Wednesday 5th July 2017, Year 6 students came to Transition Day to have their first day in The Bridge. It was a fun filled day where all the students met their Year 7 tutor and The Bridge Team.

    Students participated in 'getting to know' you games and making new friends with students from different primary schools.

    In the afternoon, all students participated in a Year 7 lesson. Some students    contributed in their Spanish lesson, whilst others took part in Debating, Poetry Writing and Geography.

    The day was concluded by an assembly with four Year 6 students sharing their day's experience with the rest of their fellow peers and parents followed by a short video of the day's events.

    Mrs Alexander-Weller stated, 'The Year 6 students have been very enthusiastic, getting to know each other and their tutors as well as demonstrating great determination in their learning. September will be a wonderful occasion where the new Year 7s will begin their President Kennedy career in The Bridge, in our new school build.'

  • Year 9 Triangular Softball Tournament

    Published 07/07/17

    On Monday night Year 9 boys took part in a triangular softball tournament against Barrs Hill and  Sidney Stringer.

    The first game saw Stringer beat Barrs Hill 8-5. In the second game, President Kennedy fielded first and showed good tactical awareness to keep Stringer down to 7 runs, we batted and ran well to edge the game with 8 runs. In the final game, we showed excellent communication skills in the field to continually run out our opponents and limit Barrs Hill to 2 runs, in reply we struggled with the bat, but eventually found runs to end up tournament winners.

  • President Kennedy School's Success to be Shared Nationally

    The National Schools Commissioner works closely with the 8 Regional Schools Commissioners to support school leaders, teachers and governors in achieving the best education system possible for all children in England. 

    Sir David Carter, the National Schools Commissioner, has written to Mr Thomas inviting him to attend a round table discussion meeting at the Department of Education in July.

    The meeting will shape the Department of Education’s strategy for turning around under performing schools across England.

    In the letter Sir David wrote, “You have been specifically invited because your school has been on a significant improvement journey and we are keen to learn from your    experience and build it into our school improvement strategy”.

    The meeting will take place in Westminster, London in early July.
