Mariah Captains Great Britain's U18 Ice Hockey Women's Team

On the 5th January, I flew to Ljubljana, Slovenia with the Great Britain’s U18 Woman's Ice Hockey Team. We travelled  on to Austria which was our home for a week. We participated in the World Championship Qualification Division 1, where we were faced against teams such as Poland, Australia and Italy.

I was proud to be announced captain of the team. Our first game saw us face Italy; unfortunately we fell short and lost 3-1, the following day we played Poland where we won 3-1. After that game, most of the players shed tears as we all stood singing our national anthem representing our Country.

Our third game was against Australia and we won 3-2 and by winning that game, this secured a place for us in the bronze medal game against Kazakhstan. Luck wasn't on our side as we lost to Kazakhstan 2-0 which put us one game short of a bronze so we finished 4th place out of 8.

This was an amazing result for the team as we did not expect to get this far.
The tournament was an amazing experience and I was proud to be representing the Great Britain team as their captain.
